Well folks,
Unable to escape my Canadian genes, I've chosen to travel
North and leave
Africa behind. The choice was made easier by a sad
combination of a useless
Canadian embassy in Rabat, a case of the Moroccan mumbles
(aka Delhi-belly,
Turkey-tummy, or traveller's diarhea for those of you who
don't understand
euphamisms),and a general desire to give myself the ever
precious birthday
present of basic hygiene. Don't get me wrong. Morocco is a
beautiful
place, and the people here are fantastically friendly, but
the amount of
blatant nose-picking alone is enough to make Martha Stewart
projectile
vomit.
So now I'm back in Chaouen (aka Chefchaouen, but refered to
simply as
Chaouen after the chefs were removed from power in the
bloodless coup of
1987). Chaouen, you may remember, was the little town I was
so happy with
when I first arrived in Morocco. I can tell you, after
visiting a few other
Moroccan cities, that this is is still my favourite place.
It's set in the
side of the Rif Mountain range, with spectacular views and
sunsets. And in
keeping with the theme of my vacation, yes family you'll be
happy to know
that Chaouen is jam-packed with drug dealers. Although the
one I spoke with
had diversified into small arms. Fantastic! Sure, I'll come
to your place
for tea! What's that you say? Swallow these little bags?
I've spent this evening sending off emails to Spanish
organic farms, so
hopefully I'll spend January picking olives! The adventure
emails may get a
little slower through this particular period.
Oh, the internet cafe is closing!
Have fun!

p.s., shaved my head and i'm growing a hideous beard!
